This week’s WPC theme, the Early Bird, presents a wide range of choices.  An early riser on any trip, there are usually a few images to choose from.  This may not be my only post on this topic!

Let’s start close to home, and scarcely could it be closer, a 5 minute cycle gets me to the end of the North Bull Wall in Dublin.  The incredible summer of 2013 provided the opportunity to photograph a guaranteed sunrise, over Howth Head, with the low tide sands of Dollymount in the foreground.  Previous blog here on this short trip!

Next to the Maasai Mara in Kenya where the early morning light is always magical.  However, rather than a landscape, I like the way the sunrise hits a local resident, and they react the way most of us would when disturbed from a slumber.

A quick detour to Los Canos de Meca in Andalucia, home to some magnificent beaches backed by sand cliffs.  The beaches are not of the overrun Spanish variety, and particularly not at that hour of the day.

Ambergris Caye in Belize, and the town of San Pedro, can look this still and calm at every time of day, not just as light is starting to appear.

Up in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains for a glimpse of the sun rising and reflected in the amazing Kasbah Tamadot, a Richard Branson-owned retreat which not just pampers, but pours support back into the local community.

Finally, I end in Miami Beach (hopefully that’s not just a line I can use for a blog post!).  A shared sunrise for these early birds, and one of South Beach’s iconic lifeguard stations.
