This weekend (Sunday to be precise) is Holocaust Memorial Day. The various TV programmes and newspaper features which appear each year never fail to shock once again that such inhumanity was possible so recently, and there never fails each year to be reminders that there are many around the world who would use fear to stir up such hatred again.
Miami Beach seems an incongruous place for a piece of art which expresses the horror of the Holocaust more vividly than anything I’ve seen. The overall motif, and every detail therein, speaks for itself. It’s a quiet outpost, near geographically but far removed from the playgrounds of the beach, Ocean Drive et al.
